COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Automation track - Team 1

"Microcontroller based Implementation of Neural Networks (NN)"

Students will implement a very simple NN (2 or 3 neurons) that will run on a PIC microcontroller. The application which will be carried out by the NN will be announced later during the project meetings. The circuitry/software which will be embedded should be running stand-alone (without a PC) but the final product should also include, a PC software to control/monitor the NN embedded on the PIC microcontroller.

(Interfacing, user interface software and data processing parts will be carried out by computer engineering students)

Automation track - Team 2

"Electronic Device Curve Tracer"

· Multi-terminal DC voltage and current sweep generators (with digitally controlled steps + fast/slow measurement settings)

· Multi-terminal DC voltage and current measurement circuits (with output voltage/current limitation control)

· Computer / measurement device interface circuits (two directional flow of data)

· User interface software (for setting measurement ranges and processing/displaying the plots/tables)

(Interfacing, user interface software and data processing parts will be carried out by computer engineering students)

Automation track - Team 3

"1Hz-1MHz Bode Plot Extractor"

· Test signal generator (with digitally controlled amplitude and frequency).

· Amplitude and phase measurement circuits (with output voltage saturation prevention control) Computer / measurement device interface circuits (two directional flow of data)

· User interface software (for setting measurement ranges and processing/displaying the plots/tables)

(Interfacing, user interface software and data processing parts will be carried out by computer engineering students)

Automation track - Team 4

“Design and implementation of elevator control system”

Students will design and implement a PIC microcontroller based, controller ciruit which will be used to control an elevetor system (elevator’s mechanical hardware is already available at our laboratories). Also, the project includes the development of a PC interface software which should be usable both to monitor and control the elevator actions from the computer.

(Interfacing, user interface software and data processing parts will be carried out by computer engineering students)

Software track – Both teams

“GAU Courseware, a Video on demand based e-learning system”

Students are expected to develop a simple e-learning system where each course will contain video courses which are served on demans (YOUTUBE like), lecture notes and other materials, as needed by the instructors.

Instructors should be able to control every authentication activity regarding the lecture materials and also be able to conduct assignments. Pay attention that, the instructor part of the project should be in a content management software fashion which allows the instructor to fully customize the course page(s). Students should be able to create accounts, enrol in courses and submit assignments.

The system should include an admin panel where, rights about the user accounts, roles, restrictions can be managed along with the whole content.

Academic track – Both teams

“Web Search Bot with Information Retrieval capabilities”

In this project, a simple search engine will be developed whre a very limited amount of web sites will be investigated automatically into vectors. To investigate the pages, simple string processing software will be coded and analyzed using Information retrieval techniques.

Main parts of the project can be summarized as the bot which will visit the predefiend set of pages, the content analyzer and the rank calculator/presenter.
