Common Engineering Laboratories

Chemistry Laboratory

Cemistry Laboratory is designed to reinforce the material the students have learned in class and gives them chance to apply their knowledge. The lab will allow the students to delve more deeply in chemistry topics. The lab alows the students to

learn how to make up chemical solutions
perform lab techniques
play it safe in the lab
perform chemistry lab experiments.

Physics Laboratory

The Physics Laboratory is used for practical investigation of concepts taught in General Physics 1 and 2 courses. The Laboratory is equipped with a number of experiment test sets to study ordinary mechanics, electricity and Magnetism.

Part one of Physics lab which is performed parallel to the course of General physics 1 in the first semester of each year, comprises the translational and rotational mechanics including the following Experimental tests:

Measurement of basic constants such as length, weight and time
Newton’s second law/Air track or Demostration track
Free fall motion
Projectile motion
Moment of inertia and angular acceleration
Mechanical conservation of energy/Maxwell’s wheel
Mathematical pendulum
Part two of Physics lab which is performed parallel to the course of General physics 2 in the second semester of each year, comprises electricity and magnetism including the following Experimental tests:

Measurement of small resistances
Wheatstone Bridge
Temperature dependence of different resistors and diodes
Semiconductor thermogenerator
Electrical fields and potentials in the plate capacitor
Dielectric constant of different materials
Magnetic Induction

The students are divided in groups of 2-3 students to work together and to offer the weekly test reports. Attendance, tests performed and offered tests reports by students are checked and by considering the weighting of each part, the Lab grades are calculated.   

In addition to experimental tests related to the Physics courses 1 and 2, this lab is also used by students for other related experimental tests for the research purposes.

Mechatronics Laboratory

Mechatronics Laboratory equipped with today`s technology, automation and robotic systems allows engineering students to make experiments for specific engineering courses such as robotics, simulation etc. Students are reinforcing their theoretical knowledge by making experiments using PLC (programmable logic circuits) test sets, mobile robots and industrial robot.

Mechatronics Laboratory is equipped with PLC-controlled elevator system, PLC-controlled sensor-equipped walking tape automation, Mitsubishi industrial robot automation, PLC-controlled robot automation, sensor-controlled industrial fluid transfer system and the mechanical / pneumatic measurement training sets. Devices and parts of mechatronics laboratory are powered by German Robot Brand; FESTO.

Alternative Energy Laboratory

Set of alternative energy laboratory equipment consists of the three separate energy supply systems with the computers.

Each of these systems produces electrical energy from wind energy and solar energy.

Alternative Energy Laboratory will allow our students:

Performing of lab experiments for courses: Solar energy and Photovoltaic Systems (EEN477), Alternative Energy Supply Systems, Wind Energy Systems, etc.
Evaluation Efficiency of the Wind and Solar Energy Systems.
Recording Saving and Analysis of the data involving air temperature, wind speed, electrical parameters (voltage, current, power from each system) from each system.

In addition to the above mentioned, set of alternative energy systems will provide:
New Scientific Research Projects including Master and Doctoral Programs.
Use of the Uninterruptible Energy Produced during 24 hrs of day.
24 hrs Uninterruptible Energy Production from Solar and Wind Gust.
